In The Next Slum?, the March 2008 edition of the Atlantic Monthly observes the trend of people moving away from traditional, McMasion suburbs back to urban centers and walkable communities.
The article reports that "pent-up demand for urban living is evident in housing prices" where the difference between traditional suburban space and urban spaces can range between 40 percent to 200 percent. The increased cost has risen for both central cities and "suburban towns that have walkable urban centers offering a mix of residential and commercial development."
